What Is Mental Health?

Mental health describes a person’s emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. It influences how we think, feel, and behave, and it plays an important role in how we manage stress, maintain relationships, and make decisions. Everyone has mental health, but some people may experience poor mental health or symptoms that affect their daily functioning and overall wellbeing. This is normal, and support is available.
Common ways to improve and maintain good mental health include building a consistent routine, getting enough sleep, engaging in regular physical activity, staying connected with supportive people, practising mindfulness or grounding techniques, enjoying hobbies, creating healthy boundaries, and seeking professional help when needed.
What Is ADHD?

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, focus, organisation, emotional regulation, and activity levels. ADHD is not caused by poor parenting, lifestyle choices, or lack of intelligence. It is a natural difference in brain development and functioning. Many people search for answers to questions like “What are ADHD symptoms?” or “How is ADHD diagnosed?”, and understanding ADHD can help individuals access the right support.
ADHD is commonly described in three presentations: inattentive, hyperactive/impulsive, and combined. It can impact daily life in areas such as concentration, time management, task initiation, motivation, and emotional control.
Helpful ADHD strategies include using structure and routine, breaking tasks into smaller steps, using reminders or visual planners, incorporating movement breaks, using sensory or noise‑management supports, and accessing coaching, therapy, or medication when appropriate. These approaches help many people manage ADHD symptoms in both personal and professional environments.
Related or Overlapping Conditions

ADHD often occurs alongside other conditions, and some difficulties can be mistaken for ADHD due to similar symptoms. Conditions commonly linked with ADHD include anxiety disorders, depression, autism spectrum condition, sleep problems, sensory processing differences, and learning differences such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, and dyscalculia. Hormonal changes and emotional dysregulation can also be associated.
Some conditions that can appear similar to ADHD include anxiety, chronic stress, trauma, sleep deprivation, hearing or vision difficulties, thyroid problems, and attachment‑related difficulties. Because symptoms overlap, such as; difficulty concentrating, restlessness, or challenges with organisation, a thorough and accurate assessment is important. Getting the right diagnosis ensures the right support and strategies can be put in place.
